What is your secret daydream or fantasy? I’ll tell you mine. I dream of a day when I can take my time each morning to write at a leisurely pace. Have endless hours to spend with family and friends. Enjoy a vacation that lasts longer than two weeks. Linger with God in the mornings.
But I live in the real world (hence the fantasy part).
Deep down inside, what I really want is a break from the daily grind. I long for a slower pace of life—right where I am. If you do too, you’ve come to the right place.
Hi! My name is Helen. I’m a Christian, wife, stepmom, and furmom. I’m a board-certified psychiatric nurse with a degree in nursing and sociology. I love to write about the intersection of Christian faith and social science.
I write to help you find ways to slow down and find more time and meaning in day-to-day life—especially if you feel overwhelmed or burned out.
In this blog, you’ll learn practical tips to navigate the unique challenges of modern life from a Christian perspective. You’ll find well-researched articles about slower/simpler living, spiritual disciplines, work, productivity, friendships, and hobbies.
As a driven, type-A person, I started writing about slower living several years ago. I recognized the detrimental effect of a lifetime of hurry and marginless schedules on my well-being and walk with God. Since then, I have come to believe that we will not enjoy a deep, intimate relationship with God unless we first learn to slow down.
Slowing down does not come naturally to me, however. I’m guessing that it doesn’t for you either. I write not because I have mastered these things, but because I’m in the humble process of learning.
